Kelly Nyks, film maker of "Split" -Documentary Film Showing and Discussion
Charles Postel, San Francisco State University, is an award-winning historian of American political thought and society. He is the author of The Populist Vision (2007), a history of the original Populist movement of the 1890s, which received the Bancroft Prize in History and the Frederick Jackson Turner Award from the Organization of American Historians, two of the most prestigious prizes in the historical profession. His new book project is Pursuit of Reform, 1865-1920, a new interpretative work on the post-Civil War reform movements that culminated in the Progressive Era. He is also researching the historical origins of the Tea Party movement. Currently, Dr. Postel is Scholar-in-Residence at the Heidelberg Center for American Studies.
Kelly Nyks, is an Award-Winning writer and director of short and feature length films, initiated Split`s cross-country investigation. He is also a successful actor who has appeared in numerous feature films.
Split: A Divided America is a 2008 documentary film which has been updated in 2011 and portrays partisan divides in American society. It examines a perceived political divide Red- States / Blue States, Conservatives and Liberals, Republicans an Democrats) from the perspective of cultural factor (like religion, urbanization, race and wealth), the modern day media, contemporary campaigning strategies and the "deterioration of civil discourse in our political experience". www.splitdoc.com
